Race report
Sunday 28th Feb 2016 saw HONK (HO North Kent) host Round 5 of the THORL Championship.
HONK at their venue in Orpington, Kent, extended the club track to 107 foot with a longer mid section.
The morning Open Wheel class kicked off with almost all running the AFX Mega G Plus.
Gary was top qualifier from Elliot, followed by Andy and Nick.
Larkfield still having the upper edge on the MG+, with everyone else closing the gap every race meeting. An incredibly close midfield saw only 3 laps covering 3rd to 10th place in qualifying.
As the finals took place, Henry was the highest climber. Qualifying in 7th, he won the C and B finals to step into the A.
In the A final, Elliot took victory over fellow 'Larkfielder' Gary. Henry was 3rd and Andy 4th.

After a brief nibble for lunch, the PM qualifying for classes of Le Mans and GT took place.
In Le Mans Elliot would continue his form from the morning, qualifying first. Nick improved from the morning and qualified close behind son Elliot. Deane and Andy would fight it out for the last A final place, with only 0.1 of a lap separating them, Deane, securing his place in the 'A'. In GT Dave topped the qualifying table, with Clive in second and Callum with an obviously quick car, but struggling to keep it on the 'black stuff'. Tony M qualified a very respectable 4th. The Grand Touring finals took place first with Jim, Josh, Louis and Tony all aiming to step up into the A final. Tony was the Victor, just over a lap ahead of Jim. In the A final, Callum found his form, taking the win from Clive, Tony and Dave. The Le Mans finals began with another race off between the Townsends, Marc and Henry, Marc being the winner and stepping up into the B final. The B was won by Andy, who joined Elliot, Nick and Deane in the A final. Elliot once again asserted his great race pace winning from Andy. Nick and Deane both struggling with issues in the finals, finishing 3rd and 4th. |
PRO MOD was the final race of the day.
A mix of Wizzards, Viper VSR and SG+ saw the fastest racing of the day. All 4 laps counting, and races of 2 minutes, it was a fast paced event to finish the day. Callum took another win, from Andy, Clive then Dave. After another great day of racing, the winners were awarded their celebratory medals, and the track put away. Congratulations to the winners: Elliot in Open Wheel and Le Mans Callum in GT and Pro Mod. Henry was awarded Top Junior. Many thanks to HONK for Hosting Round 5. The next THORL race is in Devizes, Wilts on Sunday March 20th. |
